Strabismus, anisometropia, and amblyopia.

چکیده
EVIDENCE will be presented in this communication to support the hypothesis that anisometropia per se does not produce strabismus, but that, for hypermetropes, the refraction of the better eye is an important factor. Further, the clinical entity of anisometropic amblyopia and its treatment will be discussed. Finally, some comments will be made on optical correction in anisometropia. The case records used for the statistical analysis were all obtained from Moorfields Eye Hospital (High Holborn Branch); others came from a variety of sources, including Bristol Eye Hospital.

Characteristics of Anisometropic Patients with and without Strabismus
Objectives To evaluate the risk factors for strabismus in patients with anisometropia by comparing degree of anisometropia, depth of amblyopia, and binocular visual function in anisometropic patients with and without strabismus. Materials and Methods Sixty-five anisometropic patients older than 5 years with amblyopia in one eye who were followed in the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, D...
متن کاملEpidemiologic study of anisometropia in students of Natal, Brazil.
PURPOSE To perform an epidemiologic study in students in Natal/Brazil, with relation to refractional anisometropia, evaluating criteria such as: gender, age, and association with strabismus and amblyopia. METHODS A study of 1,024 students randomly selected from several districts of Natal/Brazil was undertaken by the Department of Ophthalmology of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte ...
متن کاملAnisometropia and amblyopia--chicken or egg?
Editorials Anisometropia and amblyopia-chicken or egg? Amblyopia continues to attract tremendous interest from basic scientists and clinicians, yet surprisingly large gaps in our understanding of this topic remain. One of these is highlighted by Abrahamsson and Sj6strand who describe in this issue of the B7O (p 860) a meticulous follow up of 20 children to the age of 10 who at 1 year of age had...
متن کاملHyperacuity deficits in anisometropic and strabismic amblyopes with known ages of onset
In order to evaluate the influence of etiology of amblyopia and of age at onset of amblyopia on the resulting constellation of spatial vision deficits, resolution/vernier and recognition/resolution acuity ratios were measured in groups of children with either strabismic amblyopia or anisometropic amblyopia with known ages of onset. Strabismic amblyopia with infantile onset (<9 months) and strab...
متن کاملVisual deficits in anisometropia
Amblyopia is usually associated with the presence of anisometropia, strabismus or both early in life. We set out to explore quantitative relationships between the degree of anisometropia and the loss of visual function, and to examine how the presence of strabismus affects visual function in observers with anisometropia. We measured optotype acuity, Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity and stereoa...
